Lang'ata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang'o, has issued a firm warning to anyone intending to cause disruptions at his political rallies.
Speaking on Alex Mwakideu's YouTube channel on July 28, the MP emphasized that those who attend his meetings with hostile intentions will be physically confronted. He dismissed any claims that such actions amount to goonism, attributing consequences to the disruptors' own recklessness.
Strong Measures Against Disruptions
Jalang'o highlighted the significant resources invested in organising his events, including providing branded caps and t-shirts to supporters, paying some attendees for their time away from work, and arranging transport to rally venues. He questioned why opponents would attend only to disturb proceedings, stating:
"If you come, you will find my people wearing branded caps and t-shirts, some ferried and compensated for their time and food. If you disrupt the meeting, you will be beaten. Later, it will be said you were attacked by goons, but it is not goons—it is your own foolishness."
Advice to Opponents and Supporters
- Jalang'o urged those who disagree with his political ambitions to avoid attending his rallies altogether.
- If present, dissenters should listen quietly and leave without causing disturbances.
- He cautioned pregnant women against attending political gatherings due to safety risks.
- Supporters were also warned against riding on campaign vehicles to prevent accidents.
Admission of Paying Supporters
In a candid revelation, Jalang'o admitted to paying some supporters to attend his rallies and providing transport for others. While financial incentives to mobilize crowds are common in Kenyan politics, few politicians openly acknowledge the practice.
His comments come amid a nationwide surge in political rally disruptions, with politicians blaming rival factions and law enforcement agencies for insufficient security measures.
