Tadeo Ssekadde, the late director and founder of King David Junior School, had just purchased and renovated a bungalow in Ndejje shortly before his death in a fatal bus crash in Kapchorwa District on July 16, 2026.
The tragic accident claimed the lives of Ssekadde and 23 pupils returning from a school trip to Sipi Falls. The Isuzu bus overturned after hitting a roadside rock near Chekwatit village around 8:00 PM.
The Mansion’s Dark History
Investigations reveal that the bungalow had a troubled past. The original owner sold it to clear a bank debt. It was then acquired by Hajji Ahmed Nsamba, who bought it for his wife. She died suddenly inside the house without any prior illness, prompting Nsamba to put the property back on the market.
Ssekadde discovered the listing at a reduced price and conducted due diligence, consulting local council officials before negotiating directly with Nsamba. The sale agreement reflected a higher transaction value than the actual price paid, reportedly to facilitate a future resale at a better price.
During renovation works, another individual reportedly died under unexplained circumstances at the property. After completing the renovations, Ssekadde lived there for only about three months before the fatal crash.
Aftermath of the Crash
- Ssekadde was the only adult among the casualties; over 20 students and staff were injured and treated at Kapchorwa and Mbale hospitals.
- The bus had broken down twice during the trip prior to the accident, but these issues were not addressed.
- Following the tragedy, Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports temporarily banned all school trips nationwide.
- King David Junior School suspended operations for two weeks to allow mourning and provide psychosocial support.
