Legal representatives and family members of Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia have reported being denied access to the legislator following his arrest and detention at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road.
High Court advocate Ndegwa Njiru, speaking outside the DCI offices on Monday, stated that since Kaguchia's arrest, both his family and legal team have been unable to establish his location or the reasons for his detention.
"We have been at the reception since the time Kaguchia was arrested but have not been allowed to see him. Instructions were clear that access to our client is prohibited," Njiru said.
The legal team remains uninformed about the MP's condition, the charges against him, or the exact place where he is being held. Additionally, Kaguchia's mobile phone was reportedly confiscated, cutting off communication with his relatives and lawyers.
"His phone has been taken, and he has not been permitted to contact any family member or legal representative," Njiru added.
Kaguchia was arrested shortly after leaving Royal Media Services, where he had spent the night following an appearance on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi programme.
As of Monday afternoon, the DCI had not issued any public statement confirming Kaguchia's custody status or detailing any charges under investigation.
