Abigael Gikonyo, a leading figure in the Linda Mwananchi movement, has addressed a recent accident involving one of the movement’s aspirants. The incident occurred after a rally when the vehicle lost control and rolled over, resulting in multiple injuries but no fatalities.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page on July 26, 2026, Gikonyo expressed relief that all injured individuals are receiving medical care and urged all participants in Linda Mwananchi events to prioritise road safety.
Gikonyo emphasized:
- Leaders, drivers, and supporters must adhere to speed limits.
- Exercise caution while travelling to and from rallies.
- Safety remains the movement’s top priority.
She also responded to public feedback concerning poor sound quality during the rally, acknowledging that the turnout exceeded expectations but that sound clarity needs improvement. Gikonyo assured the public that enhancements to the sound system and overall rally experience are underway.
Ongoing Mobilisation Ahead of 2027 Elections
The accident took place amid the movement’s active mobilisation in Trans Nzoia County, which featured prominent leaders such as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo. The tour aims to broaden Linda Mwananchi’s political support, especially in Western Kenya, a critical region for the upcoming general election.
During the tour, Senator Sifuna highlighted the movement’s grassroots funding approach, noting that over Ksh3 million was raised via paybill contributions in under three days, reinforcing reliance on ordinary Kenyans rather than wealthy financiers.
As the campaign progresses, Gikonyo’s remarks underscore a renewed commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of all participants and improving event organisation.
