The Linda Mwananchi Movement has demonstrated remarkable fundraising success by amassing over Sh3 million in just one day, underscoring the power of small contributions from ordinary Kenyans.

On July 31, the movement announced it raised Sh3,000,617.28 through its ongoing nationwide campaign that encourages public donations rather than relying on wealthy financiers. This figure represents the highest single-day collection since the campaign began.

Supporters were urged to participate in the "Friday Sh100 Challenge," which calls on Kenyans to donate at least Sh100 via the movement’s paybill number. The movement expressed gratitude to contributors, emphasizing that every donation makes a meaningful impact.

Fundraising Tour in Western Kenya

During a recent tour across Western Kenya, the movement combined political rallies with fundraising efforts, collecting over Sh1.6 million through cash and mobile money contributions in Bungoma, Kitale, and Kamukuywa.

  • Bungoma led with Sh914,473 from 13,528 M-Pesa transactions.
  • Kitale followed with Sh692,124 from 9,952 mobile money donations.
  • Kamukuywa contributed Sh23,065 in cash.

Residents lined roads to greet Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s convoy, often making spontaneous donations ranging from small coins to larger sums. Sifuna defended the movement’s grassroots funding approach, stating that political leaders financed by ordinary citizens remain more accountable than those backed by wealthy sponsors.

“They say you cannot become President without money, but I would rather receive Sh10 from many Kenyans than Sh10 million from one individual,” Sifuna said.

Ongoing Support and Vision

The movement continues to receive daily contributions nationwide through its paybill, with Sifuna thanking every donor regardless of amount, emphasizing that each gift strengthens the cause.

He reiterated the commitment to public funding as a means to ensure political leaders remain answerable to citizens instead of affluent benefactors.

“Every contribution counts. Together, we are building a united, strong, and prosperous Kenya,” the movement said in a social media statement accompanying the fundraising announcement.
