Linda Mwananchi Supporters to Hold Nairobi Procession Over Party Name Rejection
Supporters of Linda Mwananchi plan a peaceful Nairobi procession to challenge the Registrar of Political Parties' rejection of their preferred party name.
A group backing the Linda Mwananchi movement has announced plans for a peaceful procession in Nairobi to protest the Registrar of Political Parties' decision to reject their application to reserve the name "Linda Mwananchi" for a political party.
Operating under the National Strategy Forum (NSF), the supporters have notified police that the procession will take place on Tuesday, starting at 10 a.m. from two points: Museum Hill Interchange and Kangemi Bridge. The march will converge at Lion Place along Waiyaki Way.
The organisers, led by Arnold Nyajayi Maliba, plan to submit a petition to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) seeking reconsideration of the refusal. The ORPP had cited the similarity of "Linda Mwananchi" to existing political slogans such as "Linda Mkenya" and "Boresha Kenya" as grounds for rejection.
In their notice, the NSF stated their commitment to conducting the procession peacefully and responsibly, respecting public order, road users, businesses, and residents. They also pledged to cooperate with the National Police Service to ensure the event proceeds in an orderly and secure manner.
The group has formally requested coordination with Parklands and Spring Valley police stations to facilitate necessary traffic and safety measures during the procession.
This action occurs amid ongoing efforts by the Linda Mwananchi movement, linked to Edwin Sifuna and his allies, to register the "Linda Mwananchi Party of Kenya (LMPK)" ahead of the 2027 General Election. The registration process faces complications due to the existence of similar party names and the recent registration of the Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA) Party.
