Safaricom Waives Fees on Pochi la Biashara Transactions up to KSh 200
Safaricom eliminates transaction fees for Pochi la Biashara payments up to KSh 200 and caps charges on higher amounts to boost affordability for small businesses.
Safaricom has introduced a new fee waiver for its Pochi la Biashara service, allowing customers to make transactions of up to KSh 200 without incurring any charges. This update, announced on April 20, aims to make daily payments more affordable for small business owners.
Updated Fee Structure
- Transactions of KSh 200 or less are now free of charge.
- For payments exceeding KSh 200, fees are capped at a maximum of KSh 50 regardless of the amount.
The telco described the changes as delivering "more savings, more value and more convenience every time you pay," under its campaign titled "Pata More na Pochi."
About Pochi la Biashara
Pochi la Biashara is a Safaricom product tailored for small-scale traders and entrepreneurs. It allows users to receive M-Pesa payments directly into a separate business account linked to their personal mobile line. The service is popular among informal traders and market vendors across Kenya.
By removing fees on low-value transactions and capping charges on higher payments, Safaricom is encouraging wider adoption of Pochi la Biashara in the micro-business sector.
Market Context
The fee revision comes amid growing competition in Kenya's mobile money landscape. Airtel Money recently launched Bizna Wallet, a digital wallet focused on small business owners, intensifying the battle for dominance in this segment.
