The Luo Council of Elders has endorsed President William Ruto’s bid for re-election, with Ker Odungi Randa cautioning community members against opposing the elders’ political directive.

On August 3, 2026, Randa emphasized that the Luo community stands united behind the political vision left by the late Raila Odinga, urging support for President Ruto and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga ahead of the 2027 General Election.

"The community is now united as one," Randa stated. "Where the party leader is, where Gladys Wanga is, we are together."

Invoking his authority as Ker of the Luo, Randa underscored the importance of following Raila’s political path, warning that those who stray could face symbolic traditional sanctions or be ostracized by the elders.

"Raila, son of Nyalego, left us at this door. If anyone goes against this path, I will point my little finger at you, and you will be lost completely," he declared.

Alliance Between ODM and Kenya Kwanza

The remarks highlight the strengthening alliance between ODM leaders and the Kenya Kwanza administration, reflecting the late Raila Odinga’s decision to collaborate with President Ruto.

Governor Gladys Wanga has been a vocal proponent of this cooperation, reaffirming ODM’s support for Ruto’s 2027 re-election. In June, during a church service in Kajiado County, she stated:

  • "As an ODM party, we have decided, as was done by the late Baba, that we are going to work together with you and walk together towards 2027."
  • She also dismissed calls for Ruto to serve only one term, insisting he deserves a second term.

Political Implications

Ker Randa’s warning is expected to ignite debate over the influence of traditional institutions in political decisions. As the 2027 General Election approaches, political alliances are shifting, with leaders seeking to consolidate support within their communities.

While delivered in traditional Luo symbolism, the Ker’s message signals a firm commitment among some community leaders to back the political trajectory associated with Raila Odinga and now aligned with President Ruto.
