Authorities have recovered an M16 rifle believed to be connected to four separate murders in Isiolo and Meru counties. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the firearm was seized during an intelligence-led operation in Kakili, Burat Location, Isiolo County.
The rifle, loaded with five rounds of 5.56×45mm ammunition, was retrieved by a joint team comprising Isiolo County police officers, National Police Reservists, and National Government Administration Officers.

The DCI indicated the rifle is suspected to be linked to notorious bandit Aloise Lochuchu, also known as 'Akoo', who faces charges related to robbery with violence. The recovery is described as a breakthrough, providing a vital lead in solving the murder cases.
The firearm is currently secured at Isiolo Police Station’s armoury and will be sent to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis. This examination will determine whether the weapon was used in the murders or other criminal activities.
Security Context
Isiolo and neighboring counties continue to grapple with insecurity driven by banditry, livestock theft, and illegal firearms proliferation. The government has intensified multi-agency security operations targeting armed criminals and illegal weapons, particularly in identified hotspots like Isiolo.
In March 2026, a broad crackdown was launched covering Isiolo, Meru, Samburu, and Laikipia counties following a surge in violent incidents and livestock raids.
