A new technology-based employment initiative has been launched in Machakos County to improve access to verified job opportunities for young people.
The programme, unveiled on July 31, is a collaboration between entrepreneur Eric Muli and the recruitment platform Joby. It aims to streamline recruitment processes by connecting employers directly with skilled youth, thereby addressing high unemployment rates in the county.
Bridging the Gap Between Talent and Jobs
Eric Muli emphasized the importance of practical solutions to Kenya's youth unemployment challenge. He noted that leveraging technology can transform how young people find sustainable careers and that investing in such initiatives can stimulate local economic growth.
Aligning with County Development Goals
This initiative supports the Machakos County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023-2027, which highlights unemployment as a key driver of poverty. The plan indicates that 74.4% of poverty among working-age adults and 36.7% among youth is linked to lack of economic engagement.
Joby’s Role in Enhancing Employment Access
Joram Theuri, founder of Joby, described the partnership as a step toward creating an inclusive and trustworthy recruitment ecosystem. This system will provide employers with confidence in hiring while giving youth greater access to meaningful job opportunities.
