A tragic incident occurred in Rarieda subcounty, Siaya county, when 23-year-old Brian Oticha Odhiambo drowned while trying to rescue a woman who had fallen into a pond.
According to police reports, the woman slipped while fetching water and fell into the pond on Monday. Odhiambo and another man immediately rushed to assist.
The woman and the other rescuer were pulled to safety and taken to Masala Health Centre, where they remain in stable condition. Unfortunately, Odhiambo drowned during the rescue attempt.
Authorities have retrieved Odhiambo's body and transferred it to a local mortuary. A postmortem and further investigations are underway.
