Authorities in Samia Sub-County, Busia, are investigating the fatal attack on a man during a "disco matanga"—a traditional funeral disco event—held in Funyula Constituency.
The incident reportedly followed a dispute over fundraising contributions, leading to a violent confrontation in which the victim suffered severe cuts and died on the spot. The assailants fled before police arrived on scene.
Local residents have expressed deep concern over the safety of such events, increasingly linking them to criminal activities, drug abuse, and insecurity. Many are now urging for stricter regulations or a complete ban on disco matanga gatherings.
Police have secured the crime scene and transferred the body to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. Investigators have launched a manhunt and encourage anyone with information to come forward at the nearest police station.
