Former Nairobi Governor and National Economic Development Party (NEDP) leader Mike Sonko has publicly urged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to remain in the opposition camp and avoid any political partnership with President William Ruto.
Speaking on July 30 at the SKM Centre during a meeting of opposition leaders, Sonko described the upcoming 2027 General Election as a pivotal moment for Kalonzo's political future. He emphasized the need for the Wiper leader to align with the aspirations of Kenyans seeking change.
"For now, Your Excellency, count on our overwhelming support. Tutatembea nawewe hii safari. Usijaribu kuenda huko..." Sonko stated, pledging solidarity for Kalonzo's journey ahead.
The remarks come amid intensified opposition consultations aimed at building a united front to challenge the ruling administration in next year's elections. Sonko highlighted his collaboration with other opposition figures including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, underscoring a shared commitment to a people-centred political agenda.
The SKM Centre gathering brought together several opposition leaders as coalition-building efforts gain momentum ahead of 2027.
Kalonzo Rejects Alliance with Ruto
Meanwhile, Kalonzo Musyoka dismissed rumors of a potential alliance with President Ruto ahead of the elections. Speaking at the SKM Command Centre after meeting members of the Linda Mwananchi movement, Kalonzo firmly stated that he would remain an opposition candidate.
"I want to tell Mr William Ruto, please stop imagining that I can ever join you. We will meet at the ballot," Kalonzo declared, rejecting any speculation about political collaboration with the President.
