Detectives investigating the murder of clinical psychologist Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso have identified a missing Toyota Prado as a significant lead in the case.

The vehicle is believed to have been used in the attack that took place in Nairobi's Upper Hill, where Dr. Mutiso was fatally shot while travelling in a taxi.

Authorities traced the Toyota Prado to a vehicle reported missing following a police-enforced eviction at Dr. Mutiso's property in Mlolongo, Machakos County, on February 12.

During the eviction, which involved demolishing parts of the approximately 20-acre estate, several vehicles disappeared alongside property worth millions of shillings being destroyed.

Investigators suspect that the missing Prado intercepted the taxi carrying Dr. Mutiso moments before gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire, shooting her three times.

Investigation into Eviction Process

Attention has also turned to the eviction process itself. Rose Mbithe Mulwa, a suspect in the murder case, reportedly presented the eviction order to police at Mlolongo Station.

Detectives are verifying if the court documents authorizing the eviction were genuine or fraudulently obtained.

After the eviction, Dr. Mutiso filed a complaint alleging trespass, malicious damage, and theft, requesting a criminal probe. It is believed that following this, she began receiving threats.

Threats and Attack

  • On July 7, Dr. Mutiso reported to Kilimani Police that she was followed and threatened by men on a motorcycle.
  • Three weeks later, she was killed in a coordinated shooting while commuting to work.

Additional Evidence and Suspects

Documents detailing the taxi involved were found during a search of Rose Mbithe Mulwa's Karen residence, raising questions about possible planning of the attack at that location.

The property at Mlolongo has been subject to a long-standing ownership dispute between Dr. Mutiso's husband, Prof. David Musyimi Ndetei, and Rose Mbithe Mulwa.

Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa remain in custody as investigations proceed. A court ruling on extending their detention is expected soon.
