A mother and her boyfriend have been handed life imprisonment following the murder and sustained abuse of the woman’s two-year-old daughter, Isabelle Welsh, in Stockton, England.
According to Teesside Crown Court, Isabelle was a joyful child before her mother, Alexandra Walker, introduced her new partner, Harrison Simpson, into their home in Thornaby in June 2025. The court described the child as a victim of prolonged and sadistic violence, including sexual abuse.
Both Walker, 26, and Simpson, 22, were convicted of murder and child cruelty, with Simpson also found guilty of sexually abusing the child. Sentencing, Ms Justice Norton declared the pair jointly responsible for the fatal injuries and the cruelty Isabelle endured. Simpson was ordered to serve a minimum of 28 and a half years, while Walker received a minimum term of 22 years.
The judge highlighted that the couple maintained a "wall of silence, lies and obfuscation" regarding the final weeks of Isabelle’s life. Isabelle suffered fatal head injuries on the morning of 13 September 2025. Walker delayed calling emergency services for several hours despite the severity of the child’s condition.
The fatal injuries were consistent with violent shaking or being forcefully thrown against a hard object, resulting in a fractured skull and catastrophic brain damage that led to her death.
