Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa appeared before Milimani Court in Nairobi linked to the killing of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a clinical psychologist and director at the Africa Institute of Mental and Brain Health.
Dr Mutiso was fatally shot on the morning of July 29 while travelling in a taxi near the junction of Mbagathi Ring Road and Mawensi Road in Upper Hill. Witnesses reported that an SUV was waiting at the junction when a motorcycle carrying three men approached the taxi. One of the motorcyclists fired two shots at Dr Mutiso, who was seated in the rear passenger seat. Both the motorcycle and SUV fled immediately after the attack.
The taxi driver rushed her to Kenyatta National Hospital emergency centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body was taken to the KNH morgue pending autopsy.
Investigations Focus on Prior Threats
Authorities are examining whether threats Dr Mutiso had previously reported to Kilimani Police Station are connected to her murder. The case was referred to Satellite Police Station under Dagoretti Division, where detectives are following up on the complaints.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and forensic experts are also investigating two earlier incidents that raised safety concerns for Dr Mutiso: an alleged attack at her Mlolongo residence and an encounter where an armed man approached her vehicle in traffic.
Preliminary findings suggest Dr Mutiso may have been followed from her home on the morning she was killed.
