Two suspects, Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa, have been arraigned at Milimani Law Courts in connection with the murder of clinical psychologist and researcher Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The prosecution requested a 30-day detention period to allow detectives to complete their investigations. The suspects were arrested in an intelligence-led operation in Karen.
Background of the Case
- Dr. Mutiso had reported two separate incidents of threats by unknown men on a motorcycle before she was fatally shot.
- On July 7, 2026, two men on a motorcycle attempted to shoot her on Ngong Road near Junction Mall; she escaped unharmed and reported the incident to Kilimani Police Station.
- She identified the pillion passenger as Chris Mulwa, son of Rose Mulwa, who is the former wife of Dr. Mutiso’s husband, Prof. David Musyimi Ndetei.
Possible Link to Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu’s Murder
Police are exploring connections between Dr. Mutiso’s killing and the September 2025 shooting of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu. Mbobu had represented Prof. Ndetei in a longstanding property dispute with Rose Mulwa involving assets worth billions of shillings.
Both victims were reportedly trailed before being shot, raising suspicions of a coordinated attack.
Autopsy Findings
Chief government pathologist Johasen Oduor confirmed that Dr. Mutiso died from severe bleeding caused by three gunshot wounds: two to the head and one to the upper body. The fatal injuries left no chance of survival.
The postmortem was conducted at Kenyatta National Hospital with family members and homicide investigators present.
