A Nairobi court has ordered Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa to be held in separate police stations for 21 days as investigations continue into the murder of clinical psychologist Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The magistrate ruled that releasing the suspects on bail posed a significant risk of witness interference. Rose Mulwa is being detained at Kileleshwa Police Station, while Chris Mulwa is held at Kilimani Police Station.
Background of the Case
Rose Mulwa is the former wife of Dr. Mutiso's husband, Professor David Musyimi Ndetei. The couple divorced in 2001 after having four children, including Chris Mulwa.
Investigators linked the suspects to threats made against Dr. Mutiso prior to her death. According to an affidavit by Corporal Romana Odour, Dr. Mutiso was followed and threatened twice by men on a motorcycle. On July 7, 2026, while driving near Junction Mall on Ngong Road, two men allegedly brandished a gun at her. She escaped unharmed and reported the incident to Kilimani Police Station, identifying Chris Mulwa as the pillion passenger.
