Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has cautioned the opposition against repeating the strategic errors that led to Raila Odinga's loss in the 2022 General Election. Speaking on a local radio station on August 4, 2026, Amisi emphasized the need for a fresh political alternative as Kenyans prepare for the 2027 polls.
Amisi highlighted that the opposition risks alienating voters if it continues to rely on established politicians without presenting a clear vision for change. He noted that many young Kenyans are seeking new leadership rather than figures who have long dominated the political scene.
Call for New Generation Leadership
"Young people want something new," Amisi said, urging the opposition to allow emerging leaders to take the forefront rather than positioning veteran politicians as the main drivers of change. He stressed that politics is heavily influenced by public perception and warned against mixed messaging that could undermine the rise of new leaders.
Critique of Azimio Coalition
Amisi also criticized the Azimio coalition, describing it as lacking a unified agenda and cohesion among its members. He argued that efforts to unseat President William Ruto should be grounded in a deliberate and strategic approach rather than personality-driven experiments.
"Azimio is a failed coalition because it never had a binding agreement or common agenda. Removing William Ruto requires intentional planning, not trial and error," he stated.
Echoing Calls for Inclusive Opposition Strategy
His comments resonate with earlier warnings from Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni, who in July urged the opposition to avoid selecting a presidential candidate through elite negotiations. Kioni advocated for a people-driven process to choose a unifying candidate capable of challenging President Ruto effectively.
Amisi’s remarks contribute to ongoing discussions within opposition circles about the leadership, strategy, and messaging necessary to mount a credible challenge in the 2027 elections.
