Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia has accused a group of heavily armed men of surrounding the Royal Media Services headquarters in Nairobi in an attempt to detain him shortly after his live television appearance.
In an early morning social media statement on August 3, 2026, Kaguchia alleged that more than 40 masked and hooded individuals, traveling in over a dozen Subaru vehicles and double-cab pickups, encircled the media station. He added that no police uniforms were visible, raising doubts about the identity of those involved.
"After my Kiririmbi Show this evening, a contingent of police surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected roadblocks with intentions of arresting me. I will not be intimidated whatsoever," Kaguchia said.
Motorists near the junction of Maalim Juma Road and Dennis Pritt Road reported unusual activity, including partial roadblocks with spike strips and vehicle searches by men matching Kaguchia's description.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identity or purpose of the operation. The incident follows criticism of Kaguchia's recent remarks in Kieni, where he appeared to threaten residents opposing his political stance ahead of the 2027 elections. His comments sparked condemnation from political figures and public debate over political intolerance.
Neither the National Police Service nor the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has issued statements regarding the claims or the events at Royal Media Services.
