Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was taken into custody by detectives and driven to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Monday morning following his arrest outside the Royal Media Services (RMS) studios in Nairobi.
Kaguchia had spent the night inside the media house after alleging that police had surrounded the premises and set up roadblocks in anticipation of his arrest. The MP claimed the move was linked to controversial political remarks he made during a television interview.
On Sunday night, Kaguchia posted on social media that he would not be intimidated despite the heavy police presence at RMS, which included officers checking vehicles and inconveniencing residents along Maalim Juma Road off Dennis Pritt Road.
The arrest followed widespread criticism of statements attributed to Kaguchia, where he allegedly threatened supporters of President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election. These remarks drew condemnation from political leaders and public figures who described the language as inflammatory and unacceptable in a democratic context.
DCI Nairobi head Daniel Kandie led the operation, engaging with RMS management before the MP and his colleagues left the studios. Kaguchia was then transported in a police vehicle to the DCI offices for further questioning.
His legal team has indicated they are actively pursuing the case to determine the next steps. Senator Momoima Onyonka was seen accompanying Kaguchia upon his departure from the studios. Outside the DCI headquarters, some of the MP’s supporters gathered in solidarity.
