Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was apprehended by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after spending the night at Royal Media Services (RMS) offices. The arrest followed his appearance on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi show and remarks he made during a political rally.
On Sunday evening, Kaguchia sought refuge at RMS, claiming that hooded men were waiting outside to detain him. He shared on social media that police had surrounded the media house and set up roadblocks with the intent to arrest him, but he vowed not to be intimidated.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Monday morning, Kaguchia said the investigation stemmed from what he described as distorted statements he made at a rally in Kieni, Nyeri County, the previous Saturday. He accused government digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and some Mt Kenya legislators of manipulating his comments to justify his arrest.
During the rally, Kaguchia warned Mt Kenya residents of consequences if they supported President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, stating in Kikuyu that voters for Ruto would be tracked and "smoked out." He maintained he had not received any official summons and was willing to cooperate with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
Regional DCI commander Daniel Kandie confirmed that Kaguchia was taken into custody for further questioning. Initial reports indicated he was held at the regional DCI offices in Milimani before being transferred to the main DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.
