Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was detained by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday following controversial remarks he made during a political rally over the weekend.
Speaking to journalists at Royal Media Services in Nairobi shortly before his arrest, Kaguchia maintained that his statements had been deliberately misrepresented on social media to advance a political agenda.
Kaguchia Denounces Social Media Distortion
The MP singled out government-affiliated figures, including political commentator Dennis Itumbi, accusing them of twisting his words to fit a particular narrative. He said:
"Some of those tweets and social media posts were twisted to fit into a certain narrative that was being pushed."
Kaguchia noted that the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) is the appropriate body to handle such issues, but he had not received any official communication or summons from them prior to his arrest.
Assures Willingness to Cooperate with Authorities
He expressed readiness to engage with the NCIC and insisted that any legal proceedings should be conducted transparently and according to due process. Kaguchia stated:
"I have no problem presenting myself to NCIC should they require that I do so. If an arrest has to be done, it should be under clear and legal circumstances so I can have my day in court."
Shortly after his press briefing, DCI officers arrived at the media house and took Kaguchia into custody.
