Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was taken into custody by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following an overnight stay at the Royal Media Services (RMS) offices.
The MP sought refuge at RMS after his appearance on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi show, where he claimed that hooded individuals were waiting outside to detain him.
On social media, Kaguchia stated, "After my Kiririmbi Show this evening a contingent of Police have surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected road blocks with intentions of arresting me! I will NOT BE INTIMIDATED whatsoever." Police officers maintained a presence outside the premises until his arrest.
Background to the Arrest
Kaguchia revealed that the arrest is linked to an investigation into comments he made during a political rally in Kieni, Nyeri County. He described the allegations as distortions of his original statements and accused government digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and certain Mt Kenya lawmakers of propagating a misleading narrative.
He emphasized that he has not received any formal summons and expressed willingness to cooperate with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), the body responsible for handling such matters.
Controversial Remarks
During the rally, Kaguchia warned Mt Kenya residents about potential repercussions if they supported President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. Speaking in Kikuyu, he said voters backing Ruto would be tracked and "smoked out" from their homes.
Next Steps
Regional DCI commander Daniel Kandie confirmed that Kaguchia would be taken to the regional DCI offices at Valley Road for further questioning.
