Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was reportedly waylaid by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) outside the Citizen TV studios in Nairobi on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
According to lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, who received information directly from the MP, the DCI officers intercepted Kaguchia under unclear circumstances. The reasons behind the officers’ actions and their intentions were not disclosed at the time.
Njiru expressed concern over the incident, especially as it involved a sitting legislator being ambushed, reportedly at night. He emphasised the importance of transparency and adherence to the rule of law in handling the matter.
As of late Sunday night, it remained unknown whether MP Kaguchia had been arrested, detained, or questioned, with no official statement issued by the DCI regarding the incident.
The interception took place outside Citizen TV studios, a common venue for political figures and public officials appearing on television programmes.
This event followed reports that Kaguchia had made controversial remarks earlier that day, which were interpreted as threats towards voters intending to support President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
