South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has disclosed that State House observes a strict dry fast every Wednesday, a practice that has become a regular tradition since President William Ruto took office in 2022.
Speaking on a podcast hosted by comedian Dr Ofweneke on July 31, Osoro highlighted that while State House usually serves meals to staff and visitors, Wednesdays are an exception when only breakfast is served, followed by a complete fast for the rest of the day.
The MP described President Ruto as a generous host who prioritizes hospitality during meetings and engagements. Osoro recalled that even during Ruto’s time as Deputy President, his office at Harambee Annex was a popular spot for lawmakers due to the availability of meals and warm reception.
"If you didn’t eat under William Ruto, he would take offence," Osoro said, noting that meetings often paused at lunchtime to ensure everyone was served before resuming.
However, Wednesdays are treated differently with a “pure dry fast” observed, where only tea is served at breakfast and no food or drink is allowed for the remainder of the day.
This weekly fasting ritual aligns with President Ruto’s public emphasis on faith, which has been a consistent feature of his leadership since assuming office. The President frequently hosts evangelical events at State House and incorporates prayer and scripture into official functions, reinforcing his image as a moral leader among his supporters.
