Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has emphasized the need for leaders who unite Kenya rather than being motivated by bitterness and ethnic divisions. Speaking at a State House event in Nairobi on August 3, 2026, Mudavadi highlighted that leadership should focus on protecting the welfare of all Kenyans, not on personal or political grudges.
"A person driven by bitterness, vengeance and vindictiveness cannot be trusted with the leadership of this nation," Mudavadi stated, stressing that leadership transcends tribalism and must safeguard the interests of Kenya’s 55 million citizens.
His comments come amid rising political tensions as various camps ramp up campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Election, with increased accusations over governance and the country’s direction.
President Ruto Defends Affordable Housing Initiative
During the same forum, President William Ruto defended his administration’s flagship affordable housing programme. He linked the initiative to Kenya’s constitutional duties and Christian values, dismissing critics who label it a political project.
"There is no difference between our Constitution and the Bible. The Book of Matthew talks about affordable housing and healthcare, and our Constitution talks about the same," Ruto said, challenging opponents to explain their resistance to efforts aimed at improving ordinary Kenyans’ lives.
The affordable housing programme remains a key pillar of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s agenda, though it has faced criticism over its implementation and funding.
Call for Leadership Focused on National Cohesion
Mudavadi urged political leaders to move beyond ethnic mobilisation and concentrate on policies that enhance citizens’ welfare. He underscored that Kenya’s future hinges on leadership that promotes unity and development rather than tribal alignments.
These remarks align with the Kenya Kwanza government’s recent messaging, which advocates for political discourse centered on development, constitutional obligations, and service delivery.
