Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was detained by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday after spending the previous night at Royal Media Services (RMS) offices.
The MP sought refuge at the media house following reports that armed and hooded men had arrived to arrest him over alleged inflammatory comments made during a political rally in Nyeri County on Saturday.
Kaguchia had appeared on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi show on Sunday evening when the DCI officers arrived outside the RMS premises. Concerned for his safety, he chose to stay inside the offices overnight, citing fears of abduction amid recent incidents involving hooded men in the country.
He stated, "I cannot present myself for abduction by hooded and heavily armed men. Considering there have been abductions in this country, those hooded men can do anything to me." Kaguchia also questioned the process, suggesting the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) should have summoned him for the alleged inflammatory remarks.
The allegations against him relate to threats directed at supporters of President William Ruto in Nyeri, warning that voters for the president would be pursued and intimidated in their homes.
On Monday, DCI officers, including those in plain clothes, maintained a presence outside Citizen TV offices where Kaguchia was eventually taken after the lead detective was granted access. He was then transported to DCI regional headquarters for interrogation.
