Residents of Mukurwe-ini Constituency staged a peaceful protest on August 3 following the arrest of their Member of Parliament, John Kaguchi. The MP was taken into custody at the Royal Media Services (RMS) offices in Nairobi earlier that morning.
Video footage shared with Kenyans.co.ke showed hundreds of demonstrators in Gikondi, Mukurwe-ini, carrying placards and twigs while chanting slogans demanding Kaguchi's immediate and unconditional release. Protesters also called for all charges against him to be dropped.
One protester addressed President William Ruto directly:
- “We are telling you, President William Ruto, you must release our MP unconditionally; this country belongs to all of us, and we are not going to be intimidated.”
Despite the large turnout, the demonstrations remained calm and no security personnel were visible at the protest site.
John Kaguchi was detained following a dramatic standoff outside Citizen TV studios on the morning of August 3. Prior to his arrest, he was seen at RMS offices on the evening of August 2.
The situation remains fluid as the community awaits further developments regarding the MP's status.
