Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was taken into police custody on Monday morning outside the Royal Media Services (RMS) studios in Nairobi after spending the previous night inside the media house.
The MP had claimed that security officers were waiting to arrest him over contentious political comments he made during a recent television interview.
Following his appearance on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi programme on Sunday, Kaguchia alleged that police surrounded the RMS premises and set up roadblocks in anticipation of his detention. He posted on social media that he would not be intimidated.
Detectives moved in early Monday and arrested Kaguchia as he exited the media house. The arrest is linked to investigations into his alleged threatening and inflammatory remarks directed at President William Ruto’s political supporters ahead of the 2027 General Election. These comments had drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders and public figures for being divisive.
Reports indicate that a senior police officer visited the station demanding Kaguchia’s production before he was taken away in a police vehicle. Senator Richard Onyonka was seen accompanying the MP from the studios. Kaguchia’s legal team stated they are seeking clarity on his detention location and status.
Residents near Maalim Juma Road, off Dennis Pritt Road, reported a heavy police presence on Sunday night, with hooded officers stopping and checking vehicles, causing disruptions in the area.
