Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was taken into custody by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday morning after spending the night at Royal Media Services (RMS) studios.

The MP had remained inside the media house since Sunday evening, following his appearance on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi programme. During the show, Kaguchia alleged that police officers had surrounded the premises and set up roadblocks intending to arrest him.

In a social media post on Sunday night, Kaguchia stated, "After my Kiririmbi Show this evening, a contingent of police have surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected road blocks with intentions of arresting me! I will NOT BE INTIMIDATED whatsoever."

Context of the Arrest

The arrest relates to comments Kaguchia made during a political rally in Kieni, Nyeri County, on Saturday. The legislator claimed his remarks were deliberately taken out of context and portrayed as inflammatory.

Speaking in Kikuyu during the rally, Kaguchia warned Mt Kenya residents against supporting President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, threatening to identify and "smoke out" those backing the President.

Kaguchia criticized government officials and fellow Mt Kenya legislators for amplifying what he described as a distorted narrative of his speech. He also noted that the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) should handle the matter.

Ongoing Investigations

An official involved in the operation confirmed that Kaguchia was transported to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road for further questioning as investigations continue.
