Mulwa’s Daughter Investigated Over Alleged Theft Linked to Dr Mutiso Murder Case

Angella Mulwa, daughter of Rose Mbithe Mulwa, who was arrested in connection with the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, is under investigation for allegedly stealing title documents linked to a Sh1.5 billion land parcel in Mlolongo, Athi River.

Police revealed in a Mavoko court that Angella is suspected to be involved in the shooting incident alongside alleged gunman Nelson Masiga Makaralu. Authorities requested her detention alongside Makaralu, with a court decision expected on August 4, 2026.

Her arraignment at Milimani Law Courts came on the same day her mother and brother, Chris Mulwa, were detained for 21 days to assist with investigations into the murder. The Athi River DCI detectives are probing Angella over alleged land fraud.

During the hearing, police linked several high-end vehicles recovered from a Nairobi suburb to Angella and Makaralu. The vehicles include a Range Rover, Toyota Prado, a pick-up truck, and a Toyota Corolla. Two of these vehicles belonged to the late Dr Mutiso, while the others were registered under her husband, Professor David Ndetei.

The suspects are also facing investigations for illegally invading Dr Mutiso’s private property prior to her death. The disputed 20-acre property has been subject to a long-standing High Court case, where Rose Mulwa, Prof Ndetei’s ex-wife, had sued Dr Mutiso.

Police highlighted the significant losses suffered by the families involved, citing unlawful eviction and demolition of matrimonial properties valued at over Sh1.5 billion.

Sergeant Gilbert Okello linked the land dispute to the murder, noting that forensic analysis of CCTV footage from the shooting scene in Upper Hill is ongoing to identify individuals in a Toyota Prado that intercepted Dr Mutiso’s vehicle.

Defense counsel Cliff Ombeta argued for the suspects’ release on bond, emphasizing Angella’s 26-year legal career and her commitment to cooperate with investigations.

Pending the court’s ruling on the 21-day detention request, Angella Mulwa and Nelson Masiga Makaralu remain in custody until August 4, 2026.
