Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata has been ranked as the best-performing county chief in the recent Infotrak Governor Performance Index, securing an impressive score of 80 percent.
This rating places Kang'ata ahead of his peers nationwide, with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya coming in second at 76 percent. Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi follows in third place with 71 percent.

The survey also highlighted other governors, including Narok's Patrick Ole Ntutu (61%), Tharaka Nithi's Muthomi Njuki (60%), and Kirinyaga's Anne Waiguru (58%). The rankings extend to the top 25 governors based on their overall performance scores.
Survey Methodology
The comprehensive index evaluated governors based on six key criteria: delivery on promises, transparency and accountability, visible development and public benefit, public funds stewardship, accessibility and responsiveness, and media visibility.
Conducted between January and May 2026, the survey covered all 47 counties, 290 constituencies, and 1,450 wards, sampling 36,200 respondents. Each county was treated as an individual survey unit, with respondent numbers proportionate to population and ward count. Data collection was executed through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) and analyzed using SPSS, with demographic factors such as age and gender accounted for in the sampling process.
