Murang’a County has been ranked as the best-performing county in Kenya according to the 2026 CountyTrak Performance Index released by Infotrak Research and Consulting on August 4.
The survey assessed public satisfaction across various devolved government functions, including agriculture, energy, environment, housing, trade and tourism, culture and sports, social services, and planning.
Top Performers
- Murang’a led nationally with an overall score of 54%, excelling in Housing, Lands and Settlement, Social Services, Trade and Tourism, and Culture and Sports.
- Kiambu followed closely with 52%, dominating the Energy sector with 56% satisfaction.
- Trans Nzoia ranked third at 50%, leading in Agriculture with a 60% score and sharing top position with Murang’a in Environment and Natural Resources.
Regional Highlights
- Homa Bay emerged as the best-performing county in the Nyanza region, tying for fourth place nationally with a 49% score alongside Elgeyo Marakwet, Kisii, and Uasin Gishu.
- The county notably ranked second nationally in Social Services at 50% and performed well in Trade and Tourism, Housing, and Culture and Sports.
- Garissa topped the North Eastern region.
Survey Insights
Despite Murang’a’s strong showing, the survey revealed that most counties scored below 50% in key devolved functions, indicating significant room for improvement in service delivery.
The highest average satisfaction was recorded in Agriculture (44.4%), followed by Environment (47.9%), with Housing and Trade both averaging 42.7%.
Regional disparities were evident, with a notable 12-point gap between top-performing counties in Central and North Eastern regions.
