Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has voiced strong support for President William Ruto's newly launched development blueprint, Beyond Vision 2030, underscoring its role in steering Kenya towards sustained national transformation.
Speaking at a thanksgiving event at St Stephen’s Secondary School in Embu County, Murkomen described the framework as a crucial foundation for securing a prosperous and dignified future for Kenyans beyond the current Vision 2030 plan.
He emphasized that the agenda prioritizes development as a central government focus, asserting that economic progress and constitutional rights are inseparable. "The right to life cannot be separated from the right to development," Murkomen stated, countering opposition critiques that questioned the timing and motives behind the initiative.
The CS highlighted the Kenya Kwanza administration's achievements in areas such as infrastructure, education, energy, and healthcare, particularly noting advancements in the Mt Kenya region. He urged that government performance be judged on tangible outcomes rather than political rhetoric, likening it to evaluating a student's report card.
Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Murkomen expressed confidence in President Ruto securing a second term, pointing to the government's development record as a key factor in garnering public support.
Addressing concerns over alleged leaks of the President's special address detailing the vision, Murkomen dismissed these claims, clarifying that the information had been publicly accessible prior to the speech.
Framework for Kenya’s Future
Beyond Vision 2030 aims to create a long-term national development charter that aligns with the aspirations of the 2010 Constitution, translating them into measurable outcomes that will transcend electoral cycles and individual administrations.
The national discussions on this vision are set to commence on August 12, 2026, involving a broad spectrum of stakeholders including government bodies, counties, political parties, the private sector, civil society, faith groups, and youth representatives.
Murkomen affirmed that this inclusive approach reflects the government's commitment to prioritizing sustainable development over short-term political interests, ensuring constitutional promises lead to improved livelihoods.
He was accompanied at the Embu event by Principal Secretaries Dr. Esther Muoria, Alex Wachira, Betsy Njagi, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, as well as Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi, Runyenjes MP Muchangi Karemba, Mbeere South MP Eng. Nebart Muriuki, County MP Pamela Njoki, and other local leaders.
