Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed allegations that President William Ruto’s recent speech outlining Kenya’s future vision was leaked ahead of its official delivery. Speaking at a thanksgiving event at St. Stephen's Secondary School in Embu County, Murkomen emphasized that the content of the address was publicly known well before the special press briefing.
"The president’s message about Kenya’s future is not confidential. It was announced weeks earlier, including through social media, and was part of a planned national agenda," Murkomen stated, referring to consultations President Ruto held with key figures such as Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o and the cabinet.
Beyond Vision 2030: A Development-Centered Agenda
Murkomen defended the newly unveiled Kenya’s New National Development Vision: Beyond Vision 2030, describing it as a blueprint placing development at the core of government policy to secure a prosperous future for all Kenyans.
He highlighted that the vision aligns with constitutional principles, asserting that economic progress and constitutional freedoms are mutually reinforcing. "The right to life is inseparable from the right to development," he remarked.
Inclusive National Conversation on Kenya’s Future
President Ruto has indicated that the vision is based on strategic proposals aimed at long-term transformation, inviting all Kenyans to participate in a comprehensive national dialogue. This process, scheduled to launch within two weeks, will engage institutions, counties, political leaders, the private sector, civil society, youth, and other stakeholders in shaping the country’s path beyond 2030.
Commitment to Peace and Security
In his address in Embu, Murkomen also assured the public of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability. He warned against the use of crude weapons and violence at public gatherings, pledging firm government action against perpetrators.
Murkomen was accompanied by several government officials including Principal Secretaries Esther Muoria, Alex Wachira, Betsy Njagi, Engineer Joseph Mbugua, as well as Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi and local MPs.
