Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on the Mt Kenya community to unite behind Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, whom he described as the region's prospective leader.
Speaking at a thanksgiving event held at St. Stephen's Secondary School in Kagaari, Embu County, Murkomen emphasized the importance of local support for Kindiki's role as Deputy President.
Support from Home Region Crucial
"I urge you to stand firmly with Prof. Kindiki and support his leadership as Deputy President," Murkomen stated. He also appealed to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to move beyond mere recognition and actively encourage regional backing for Kindiki, referencing Gachagua's recent description of Kindiki as the "son of the mountain."
Murkomen dismissed rumors suggesting Kindiki faces challenges within the government, clarifying that the Deputy President’s main concern is the level of support he receives from his home region.
Commitment to Peace and Security
The Cabinet Secretary praised the National Police Service for maintaining order during recent public gatherings, noting the absence of violence or disruptions by armed groups.
He issued a stern warning to individuals suspected of funding violence or carrying crude weapons to disrupt events, affirming that the government will enforce laws to protect public safety.
"We will not tolerate the carrying of crude weapons under the guise of self-protection when it leads to violence," Murkomen said.
