A quiet civil wedding in Nairobi unexpectedly captured national attention when the groom was mistaken for well-known blogger Cyprian Nyakundi.
Ibrahim Mulama and his wife held a low-key ceremony on July 29 at the Attorney General's Office, intending for an intimate event with close family and friends.
However, videos from the wedding quickly spread across platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, sparking widespread confusion and amusement among Kenyans who believed the groom resembled Nyakundi.
Mulama told TUKO.co.ke that he was initially shocked by the viral attention. "We wanted a simple, private ceremony, so this unexpected exposure took me by surprise," he said.
Friends began sending Mulama screenshots of social media posts joking about his supposed double life as the blogger. Despite the overwhelming response, he embraced the humor surrounding the case of mistaken identity.
Regarding their choice of venue, Mulama explained, "We opted for the AG's Office to keep the wedding official and private rather than having a large traditional celebration."
Ironically, this private event attracted far more public attention than anticipated due to the resemblance to Nyakundi, who himself reacted with laughter to the viral clips.
