Boni Manyala, a Nairobi resident, has undertaken a heartfelt project to replace his 78-year-old widowed mother's aging house with a new two-story home in Busia County.

The new residence is located at the foot of Namenya Hill in Marenga village, Port Victoria. It features a top-deck porch designed to offer stunning views of Lake Victoria, allowing his mother to enjoy the cool hill breeze and watch boats sailing from Uganda.

As the youngest of five siblings and the last surviving child, Manyala shared progress photos of the construction on Facebook, expressing his excitement that his mother will move into the new home later this year.

Community Reactions and Advice

The son's dedication has resonated with many Kenyans online, who praised his commitment to providing a comfortable home for his mother. Some commenters also offered practical suggestions, such as incorporating ramps for wheelchair access, limiting the number of stairs to accommodate elderly residents, ensuring safety with non-slippery bathroom tiles, and consulting experts to ensure quality construction.

Manyala’s mother, Phaustine Akong'o Manyala, has lived in Marenga village all her life. The new home symbolizes a meaningful gift to honour her years of care and sacrifice.
