The Technopolis Development Authority recently inspected the construction of the new Jitume Centre of Excellence in Nandi Hills, part of a national initiative to establish one such facility in every Kenyan county.
Anthony Sang, Chief Manager for Construction Operations Management at the Authority, highlighted the government's dedication to expanding digital access and skills development for young people across the country.
Facilities and Training Offered
- Collaborative workstations and e-commerce spaces
- Studios and dedicated learning centres with high-speed internet
- Capacity building in artificial intelligence, robotics, software development, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital content creation
Sang emphasized that the centre is a strategic investment in Kenya's digital future, designed to equip youth with advanced skills, foster innovation, and support entrepreneurship. The centre aims to help young Kenyans transform ideas into sustainable businesses and compete globally.
Expanding Digital Opportunities in Nandi
Nandi County already hosts five Jitume Digital Hubs at various technical and vocational colleges. The new Centre of Excellence will complement these hubs by providing a pathway from basic digital literacy to advanced innovation and entrepreneurship.
Since the Jitume programme's 2023 launch, over 330 digital hubs have been established nationwide, distributing nearly 30,000 digital devices and training more than 100,000 youths, with over 91,000 gaining access to digital jobs.
Sang reiterated the government's commitment to inclusive economic growth by ensuring equitable access to digital skills and infrastructure across all regions, empowering youth to create technology-driven enterprises and contribute to Kenya's economic transformation.
