The National Police Service (NPS) has refuted a viral list circulating on social media that claimed to announce new appointments of Officers Commanding Stations (OCSs) across Nairobi police divisions.
On August 5, 2026, the NPS used its official X account to publish the disputed list prominently marked with a red "FAKE" stamp. The Service warned the public against accepting or disseminating the document, which purported to detail transfers and appointments at over 30 Nairobi police stations, including Central, Kilimani, Kasarani, Lang’ata, Kayole, Dandora, Kawangware, Zimmerman, Githurai, and Umoja.
NPS Clarifies Appointment Procedures
The National Police Service confirmed that no official deployment or transfer orders matching the list have been issued. It emphasized that formal changes in police leadership positions, such as OCS appointments, follow strict internal protocols and are communicated through authorized channels, not anonymous social media posts.
While the source of the fabricated list remains unidentified, the NPS cautioned the public to verify information through official communication platforms before sharing any purported police documents.
Concerns Over Fake Government Documents
This incident highlights a rising challenge of counterfeit government documents circulating online. Various government agencies have recently had to dispel misinformation involving false appointment letters, policy notices, and recruitment announcements spreading on social media.
Authorities warn that such disinformation can erode public trust in official institutions and complicate communication efforts.
