Nyandarua Senator John Methu has committed to ensuring that votes cast by his supporters in the 2027 General Election are protected and accurately counted. He emphasized that Kenyans must actively guard their votes rather than leaving the process to chance.
Reacting to recent comments by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Methu stressed the importance of staying engaged beyond just casting ballots. "On election day, we will vote and then protect our votes," he said.
Murkomen had cautioned against groups lingering around polling stations under the guise of safeguarding votes, insisting that security is the sole responsibility of the National Police Service. He warned that any unauthorized individuals or politicians attempting to "guard" polling stations would be treated as troublemakers.
Addressing a rally in Nanyuki, Methu clarified that their intention is not to cause disruptions but to ensure voters remain vigilant throughout the counting and tallying process, safeguarding the integrity of the election. He cited the Ol Kalou by-election as a successful example where supporters closely monitored the process, reinforcing their resolve to maintain such vigilance in 2027.
"Just as we protected our votes during the Ol Kalou by-election, we will do so again in 2027," Methu declared. The rally was also attended by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua and other political figures. The group held a similar event in Naromoru, Nyeri, underscoring their commitment to mobilizing ahead of the next general election.
This development comes as political parties and leaders intensify preparations and mobilization efforts nationwide in anticipation of the 2027 polls.
