The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project has raised the daily stipend for beneficiaries in 14 designated hardship counties as it begins training a new group of participants.
Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs announced that the stipend for youths in these counties will increase to Ksh500 per day, up from the previous Ksh300. This adjustment aims to help participants manage transport and other costs during the 20-day Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD) training, part of the programme's On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component.

Youths in all other counties will continue to receive the standard daily stipend of Ksh300. Additionally, mothers participating in the programme will get an extra Ksh250 daily to cover childcare expenses during training.
Training and Apprenticeship Details
The induction for the new cohort started on Monday across Lots 5, 6, and 7, covering 18 counties including Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, and Mombasa. The SESD training focuses on developing workplace skills such as teamwork, leadership, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and professionalism.
Upon successful completion of the 20-day training, participants will advance to a five-month apprenticeship under experienced artisans, gaining hands-on industry experience.
PS Jacobs noted that attendance has been above average in many counties, with ongoing efforts to mobilize eligible youths in areas with lower turnout to ensure inclusivity.
