Stanbic Aces head coach Maurice Obilo has emphasized the need for tactical discipline as his team gears up for a vital double-header in the National Women's Basketball Premier League this weekend at USIU Grounds, Nairobi.
The bankers will face former champions Equity Hawks on Saturday, followed by a clash with league newcomers Dream Girls on Sunday. Both matches carry significant weight in Stanbic's pursuit of the league title.
Currently second in the standings with 32 points from 17 games, Stanbic have recorded 15 wins and only two losses. Obilo noted that the recent break from competition provided an opportunity to refine their gameplay.
"We must maintain tactical discipline to secure victories in both matches," Obilo said. "The team has been working on key areas that needed improvement, and the players are eager to compete."
While acknowledging Equity Hawks’ experience and seniority, Obilo remains confident that his squad is prepared to challenge them.
"Equity Hawks have seasoned players and a strong pedigree, but we respect that and are ready to compete with confidence," he added. "Our previous win against Dream Girls was not at the level we expect, so we have focused on enhancing our performance for the upcoming game."
Obilo also highlighted the unique challenge of preparing for two different opponents in a single weekend, noting the need to adapt to varying playing styles and coaching tactics.
"Managing two games against different teams with distinct systems is demanding, but our approach is to focus on one game at a time," he explained.
Stanbic aims to maintain pressure on league leaders Kenya Ports Authority by securing maximum points from these fixtures as the regular season approaches its climax.
