Dan Totto, the eldest son of former Migori governor Okoth Obado, was involved in a serious road accident on August 1 while travelling from Nairobi to Migori. Driving a luxury Lexus LX 600, Totto’s vehicle suffered extensive damage, but all occupants escaped with only minor injuries.
The crash occurred days after Totto’s father was convicted of murder and remanded at Industrial Area Prison. Totto, also known as Dan Obado and professionally an engineer, was accompanied by two passengers, while the other vehicle involved had one occupant. Despite initial reports suggesting serious injuries, Totto later clarified on Facebook that everyone involved sustained minor injuries and he expressed gratitude to those who reached out following the incident.
Extent of Damage
Video footage shared on social media revealed significant damage to the Lexus, particularly on the rear driver’s side where the wheel was torn off and structural damage extended from the rear door to the front. The rear bumper hung loosely, and the side airbags inside the vehicle had deployed, highlighting the impact’s severity.

City car expert Dennis Kimanthi described the Lexus LX 600 as a high-end SUV equipped with advanced safety features that likely contributed to the occupants’ survival. The vehicle’s value ranges between KSh 22 million and KSh 35 million, depending on the model. Kimanthi noted that it is among the top luxury SUVs in Kenya and is also used by President William Ruto.
