At least one construction worker lost his life and five others were injured after a section of a building under construction collapsed in Syokimau, Machakos County on the evening of August 13, 2026.

The incident occurred while masons and casual workers were on site when a wall suddenly gave way, trapping several workers and causing serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Wanjala. The injured were promptly taken to Shalom Hospital in Athi River for medical attention. A police team from Syokimau station visited the hospital to assess the victims' conditions and confirmed Wanjala had succumbed to his injuries. His body remains at the hospital pending further procedures.

Authorities including police, local county officials, and the National Construction Authority have launched investigations to determine the cause of the collapse.

Separate Electrocution Incident in Uasin Gishu

In an unrelated tragedy, a 23-year-old woman named Linda Nasambu Luyah died after being electrocuted in Soweto Estate, Moi's Bridge, Uasin Gishu County on August 12, 2026.

She was rescued and rushed to God’s Favour Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police and Kenya Power officials have documented the scene as investigations continue. Her body was taken to Cherangany Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
