The Open University of Kenya (OUK) has announced the launch of new degree programmes, professional development courses, and ICT certifications with affordable fees and flexible online learning options.
New Programmes and Fees
Applications are open year-round for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses across three schools: Science and Technology, Business and Economics, and Education. Most undergraduate programmes are priced between Sh79,000 and Sh86,000 per year, while postgraduate tuition ranges up to Sh187,500 for the entire programme.
School of Science and Technology
- Undergraduate degrees include Data Science, Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Mathematics and Computing, Interactive Media Technologies, Computer Science, Agri-Technology and Food Systems, and a new Bachelor of Nursing (Upgrading) programme.
- Most bachelor’s degrees cost Sh79,000 annually, except Agri-Technology at Sh86,000 per year. The nursing programme runs for two and a half years at Sh43,000 per trimester.
- Master’s degrees are offered in Mathematical Innovation, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, and Digital Services Management, each costing Sh187,500 for the full course.
School of Business and Economics
- Offers undergraduate courses in public communication, public administration, business, economics, and commerce.
- Postgraduate diplomas, master’s, and PhD programmes are also available with fees of Sh110,000, Sh187,500, and Sh337,500 respectively.
School of Education
- Provides undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, master’s, and PhD programmes, including a new Bachelor of Education (Arts).
- Undergraduate fees range between Sh79,000 and Sh86,000 per year.
Professional Development and ICT Certifications
OUK offers short courses in business, mental health, leadership, governance, AI, software engineering, cybersecurity, data science, and communication. Many courses last 2 to 8 weeks and cost around Sh5,000, with some fully sponsored or requiring a Sh500 registration fee.
ICT certifications include META Digital Courses and ICDL Core and Professional certifications at Sh12,000 each.
Admission Requirements and Application Process
- Undergraduate applicants need a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ or equivalent qualifications.
- Postgraduate diploma candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree; master’s applicants need a relevant bachelor’s degree; PhD applicants require a relevant master’s degree.
- Professional development courses have open admission.
- The OUK-KUCCPS portal accepts applications year-round for KCSE candidates from 2022 to 2025, with late applications and transfers accepted until August 14, 2026.
- Government scholarships and HELB loans are available for KUCCPS-placed students, while self-sponsored learners qualify for HELB loans.
International students from outside the East African Community will pay a 10% fee surcharge.
