Osoro Warns Western Kenya Supporters of Sifuna Might Turn Against Him

South Mugirango Member of Parliament and National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro has cautioned Western Kenya residents who are currently rallying behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. Osoro warned that those hyping Sifuna might be the first to turn against him if his political ambitions do not come to fruition.

Speaking on Dr Ofweneke’s podcast on July 31, 2026, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator acknowledged Sifuna’s rising political profile but expressed doubts about his readiness to contend for the presidency in the 2027 general election.

Osoro's Perspective on Sifuna's Political Path

Osoro argued that Sifuna should first seek to work within the government to gain practical experience in governance before aiming for the country’s highest office. He emphasized that understanding the workings of state institutions and public administration is crucial for effective leadership.

"Sifuna now enjoys the enthusiasm of some young supporters, and tribal sentiments are emerging. Luhyas believe he can rise, but they might be the first to turn on him because managing even a political movement is challenging," Osoro said.

He added that by joining government, Sifuna would learn the realities of running public affairs and avoid making unrealistic promises. "Government runs on taxes, and understanding this is key to leadership," Osoro noted.

Political Momentum in Western Kenya

Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua weighed in on the political dynamics in Western Kenya. In an interview with political analyst Herman Manyora on the same day, Gachagua stated that the political wave led by Senator Sifuna and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is gaining unstoppable momentum.

He challenged established leaders such as Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, questioning their ability to counter this new surge. "This wave is stronger than the one witnessed during the 2002 general election," Gachagua remarked, drawing from his experience as former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal assistant during that period.
