Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has moderated his previously harsh criticisms of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. This change of tone comes after the Linda Mwananchi movement met with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at the SKM Command Centre on July 30, 2026.
In a statement shared on social media the following day, Salasya praised Sifuna for aligning with what many Kenyans perceive as a fresh political direction. He clarified that his earlier attacks were not personal but intended to caution Sifuna against losing political focus by joining the government the opposition aims to replace.
Reflecting on the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election, Salasya said:
“Politics is a game of calculations, strategies, and timing. Those who were loud before are now left to explain themselves. Brother Sifuna, I warned early on to avoid losing your political path. Today, the winds have changed, and you stand where many believe there is a new direction. In politics, there are no permanent enemies or friends—only interests and decisions that shape the game.”
This statement represents a marked departure from Salasya's previous stance, where he had accused Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement of being an "National Intelligence Service project" aimed at disrupting opposition unity. Salasya had also threatened to collaborate with Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa to counter Sifuna’s influence in Bungoma and dismissed the senator's growing popularity as overstated.
Additionally, Salasya claimed Sifuna was attempting to diminish the political standing of Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa in Western Kenya, though he affirmed Wamalwa remains the region's dominant political figure.
