The Linda Mwananchi movement has obtained police clearance to hold a rally in Homa Bay on August 16, following the submission of a formal notification letter to the county police commander.
Samuel Nyauke, the interim coordinator for Linda Mwananchi in Homa Bay, confirmed the approval after a cordial meeting with the county police leadership on August 4. The commander assured organisers of security arrangements to ensure a peaceful event.
Commitment to Peaceful Assembly
Nyauke urged supporters to maintain calm during the rally and called on rival political groups, particularly those aligned with the ODM party, to respect the event and avoid disruptions. He emphasized the movement's commitment to a peaceful demonstration.
"We guarantee a peaceful rally and ask all supporters to refrain from any disturbances," Nyauke stated.
Strong Local Backing
According to Nyauke, Linda Mwananchi enjoys widespread support in Homa Bay, with an estimated 70% of the population aligning with its agenda. He noted that many residents had lacked a platform to express their views until now.
"We believe a significant majority here subscribe to our ideologies; this rally will provide the platform to engage and address their concerns," he explained.
Warning to Potential Disruptors
Another local leader involved in the preparations issued a direct warning to those who might attempt to interfere with the rally, stating that organisers welcome any challengers but are prepared to respond firmly.
The rally is expected to feature prominent national leaders, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and MP Caroli Omondi. Organisers have indicated that major announcements will be made during the event, marking a significant milestone for the movement.
